Where the jobs will be
Chatham-Kent's workforce board projects about 20,290 job openings between 2025 and 2035. Most come from people retiring, not from new jobs. These are the biggest fields.
| Field | Projected openings |
|---|---|
| Health care and social assistance | 3,670 |
| Manufacturing | 2,530 |
| Retail trade | 2,420 |
| Construction | 1,410 |
| Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting | 1,370 |
| Transportation and warehousing | 1,250 |
| Educational services | 1,110 |
Skilled labour is the hardest group for local employers to find: 42% rated its availability less than satisfactory. And when local job seekers were asked what would help most, the top answer was a chance to show what they can do on the job. That is why the quiz points you to something to try, not just a job title.
Skilled trades: where to startEvery job in Ontario, by pay and demand
Source: Chatham-Kent Local Labour Market Plan 2026 (Workforce Planning Ontario), which counts growth and replacement openings by industry. These are projections, not vacancies today. The 42% is from the 2025 EmployerOne survey of 139 employers. The job-seeker finding is from a survey of 54 people, so it is a local signal, not the whole community.
