How to choose

Pick the one closest to you

Not the one that sounds biggest. The tiebreakers, in order:

  1. Can you start it without buying anything? If yes, it wins. You can always upgrade later with money you earned.
  2. Do you already know someone who needs it? One named person beats a whole market you have not met.
  3. Can you do it after school or on a Saturday? An idea that needs weekday afternoons is a different business when you are in class until 3.
  4. Would you be embarrassed to tell people? Then pick another one. You have to be able to ask out loud.

One idea, five people

Do not pick three ideas. Pick one, tell five people you know, and give it two weeks. If all five say no, you have learned something real and it cost you nothing. Then pick another.

Six of these have a full guide: what the gear costs, what to charge, and exactly who to ask first. They are marked on the cards above, and the first one to read is lawn mowing.

Free, for students

Want help actually starting one?

Launch League is free for students from age 12. Pick an idea, work through eight short modules, build a one-page plan, and go and get your first paying customer. If you want, enter it in the Ontario competition at the end.

These are what people commonly charge, not what you will make. Look up what adults near you charge for the same job, then start a little under it and raise your price once you have five happy customers.
