- English training option: secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent including Grade 12 English, plus one listed math course (Grade 12 or CEGEP 201 Applied or Academic Math, Sec V Math in the Science or Technical and Scientific option, Mathematics 536 or 526). A French training option with Sec V Physics and a listed math course is also stated. The ideal candidate already has a diploma from a Transport Canada accredited AME-E (avionics) program.

- Basic Military Qualification (basic training) at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Avionics Systems Technicians attend Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering (CFSATE) in Borden, Ontario where they complete Common Core which includes common mechanical and aircraft servicing training over 8 weeks.
