Minimum education
The minimum required education to apply for this occupation is the completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including Grade 10 applied math or 416 / CST 4 in Quebec.
Initial training
Basic Military Qualification (basic training) at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Construction Technicians attend the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Training takes approximately 29 weeks.

    Skilled Trades Ontario's Canadian Forces page lists the military trade 'Construction Technician' against the Ontario trade 'Carpenter'. The page says members with a Certificate of Military Achievement at Qualification Level 5 (QL5) or Developmental Period 2 (DP2) can apply for a streamlined Trade Equivalency Assessment without detailed evidence of on-the-job experience, trade skills or references, and once verified are approved to challenge the certifying exam for a Certificate of Qualification.
