Which CAF jobs lead toward welder?

Recognized toward the trade

  • Materials TechnicianNon-commissioned member

Skilled Trades Ontario's Canadian Forces page lists the military trade 'Material Technician' against the Ontario trade 'Welder'. The page says members with a Certificate of Military Achievement at Qualification Level 5 (QL5) or Developmental Period 2 (DP2) can apply for a streamlined Trade Equivalency Assessment without detailed evidence of on-the-job experience, trade skills or references, and once verified are approved to challenge the certifying exam for a Certificate of Qualification. Skilled Trades Ontario writes the military trade as 'Material Technician' while forces.ca names the occupation 'Materials Technician'; we matched on the name. Welder applicants must also complete a practical assessment at a designated testing centre.

Listed by the CAF as a related civilian job

The CAF's own occupation page lists this civilian job as related. It is a signpost, not a credit or a licence.

See the Welder career guide for pay, outlook and the civilian route in, and the military matching toolfor other careers. Joining an occupation does not by itself earn a civilian licence. Entry, medical, security and service-length requirements are the CAF's to state: check forces.ca.
