GLS1O — Learning Strategies 1: Skills for Success in Secondary School

Students learn strategies to become better, more independent learners — literacy and numeracy skills, personal management, and interpersonal and teamwork skills they can apply at school, at work and in the community — and build the confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities in secondary school and beyond.Taking this course? Business 101 is free and self-paced and covers a lot of the same ground — you don't need your teacher to sign up first. Teaching it? Only the Exploration of Opportunities strand. A Grade 9 who has never seen what running something actually involves can use Business 101 as the thing they explore, and Serve First gives them a real, local reason to practise the teamwork this course is about. The rest of the course is not ours.

Already teaching it your way? If you need one concrete option for a student exploring possibilities, Business 101 is free, self-paced and needs no sign-up from you. Treat it as a resource a student can be pointed at, not a unit to run.

What Launch League doesn't do: Launch League teaches none of this course's core: no literacy strategies, no numeracy strategies, no study skills, no learning-styles work and no personal-management instruction. Anything beyond the exploration strand stays entirely with the teacher.

How to use it with GLS1O

Suggested starting point: start a student. You can use it any way that works for your class.

  1. Create a class

    Request teacher access and create a class at Your classes. Students join with a six-letter code.

  2. Pick only what fits your unit

    Use the Launch League work listed below that connects to what you're teaching. Skip the rest.

  3. Let students bring what they have

    A plan, a deck or a business from your class is where they start: students link it and tick what it covers. Nobody redoes work to match our format.

  4. Ask for real-world support

    Mentors, judges, a pitch workshop or a local entrepreneur — send a request.

  5. Enter, if students want to

    The provincial competition is optional and free, and every complete entry gets written feedback.

After the unit

Students can keep going

The assignment can end without the business ending. Students can validate it, sell it, launch it and compete on their own, without a teacher managing any of it.
